Dior’s Carousel of Dreams at Saks

CREATING THE
WINDOWS & LIGHT SHOW

The Edit

This holiday season, Saks and Dior have transformed Fifth Avenue with Dior's Carousel of Dreams at Saks. The captivating installation takes over all 10 stories of the NYC Flagship, showcasing an extraordinary sculptural facade which transforms into a magnificent light show every evening. Additionally, each of the windows showcases intricately created scenes of New York and Paris. Below, discover the inner workings of the windows and the facade, plus all the details that went into making one of the most spectacular displays and shows in Saks’ history.

THE WINDOWS

Special guest and Dior Ambassador Jennifer Lawrence joined us to celebrate the window unveiling and light show.

Iconic landmarks of New York City and Paris decorate the windows, recreated in great detail by miniaturists from around the world: The Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Jardin du Luxembourg, Dior’s historic flagship on Avenue Montaigne, the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, Rockefeller Center and the Saks Fifth Avenue NYC Flagship are each represented within the windows.

FROM PARIS TO NYC

Monsieur Dior’s dream trip from Paris to New York in 1947 serves as the inspiration for the windows, which are intricately designed by a collective of artisans sourced from all over the world. Monsieur Dior is seen going on a journey from Paris to NYC within the windows, with each one serving as a stop along the way.

A SPECTACULAR MINIATURE WORLD

Throughout the windows, miniature scenes recount the history of Dior and Monsieur Dior's journey to New York in September, 1947. Onlookers can take in stunning mise-en-abyme effects, including a small-scale version of Dior’s Carousel of Dreams at Saks facade installation. Every street scene or landmark is reproduced with the most minute details.

THE FACADE

A massive celestial tableau is the centerpiece of the facade, showcasing signs of the zodiac and Dior’s house codes, like the star and clover. During the day, the facade's large-scale sculptural pieces display detailed watercolor and metallic effects. In the evening, the facade transforms into a light show powered by nearly 300,000 LED lights, and is scheduled to play every 10 minutes every evening during the holiday season until Friday, January 5.
