It was a tale of 2 women at Donna Karan. The first will find the tailored, body-contoured suits that have been Donna's trademark from day one – this time in bronze brocades and beaded tweeds. But the other woman will find the ease of cocoon knits, robe-like day dresses and flowing, draped gowns a perfect antidote to life's daily structure.
Classic American sportswear? With a twist? Well, yes and no. Slightly oversized, in barely there shades of grey, blue ,and butter, this collection focused on wardrobe staples that every woman needs – but oh so Marc. Textured knits paired back to pants in soft corduroy or brocade. The coats of the season are all here from dramatic collars to the smartest coat ensemble I've seen in a while. And what about the revival of the evening hood? Twisted classics – that's what it is and I love them all!
Ralph Lauren sent out the stylish clothes his customer expects from him. Luxurious cashmere was the fabric of choice for perfect dresses in grey, and easy bathrobe-style coats in purple. The season's must-have cardigan coat looked 'very Ralph' in a knit Navajo blanket pattern. A Buffalo plaid shirt never looked so chic with sleeves rolled up and paired back to a feather-appliqued skirt. But it was the gold beaded evening skirt matched with a simple cashmere top that spoke volumes about style – Ralph's way.
Peter Som's debut collection was just aces! There's a new breed of Blass 'gals' that will flip over multi-pattern cropped jackets, vests, and full skirt looks, playful cashmere tops matched with satin skirts, tweed embroidered day dresses, a clutch coat in pearl lame, and a super ruffled entrance maker. Peter, what a colossal collection!
Vera's unique take on shape and fabric were full steam ahead today. Tapestry swing jackets and poppy brocade tops with easy bottoms flowed over the body while creating dynamic tension. Evening dresses were fluidly draped, even with the surprise of an orange pompon cardigan topper. Casually dramatic pleating techniques and mist-covered gold embroideries were showstoppers. And, I'm obsessed with that jewelry!
