NEW YORK FASHION WEEK - SPRING 2009
Carolina Herrera

Persimmon tailored dresses set the mood for Carolina's collection as ruffles and scaled-down jewels set a romantic mood. Black and white looked light and springy when a tweed skirt was paired back to a lace blouse. An embroidered blouse worn with a wide-leg pant is the new cocktail entrance maker. And I love the romantic marigold print dress worn under a tailored jacket for evening. Like Carolina, it's so chic.

This is a collection that flutters between structured and breezy silhouettes. A tweed jacket with a mini sarong skirt looks new. A sequin top pairs back to a pajama pant beautifully. And I like the return of the pajama shirt in seersucker. A rose striped sundress anyone can wear or a bustier linen dress show the range of options in Peter Som's spicy collection.

The flower goddesses of DVF, complete with floral headpieces, strolled down the runway in simple cotton lace dresses or wispy floral prints and separates, often embroidered. Her alter ego was in an exotic spirit. I like the chiffon sweatshirt and harem pants in spice tones, mismatched prints in a cardigan and dress combination, lollipop stripe sequins on a shift, and a bold orange lace jacket with a touch of shine underneath.
