MILAN FASHION WEEK - SPRING 2009 Dolce & Gabbana, Versace
Versace

Donatella Versace sent out a zippered valentine of a show. Her signature curvy, mini-length dresses, the strength of the collection, were decorated with sweet hearts and flowers realized in zippers. What might have become a one-note idea ultimately oozed charm, and provided a zippy finish to Milan fashion week.

Dolce & Gabbana

This season's fluidity trend reached its zenith at Dolce and Gabbana's spring show celebrating all things 'pajama.' From the opening pajama suits, to multiple variations on PJ tops and bottoms, the message here is mixing structured tailoring - in luscious eyelash suits and brocade dresses - with fluid tops or bottoms. Imagine all of those PJ's as satin separates and you'll get the picture.

Gucci

Clear, confident, and consistent sportswear separates ? these are the cornerstones of any Gucci collection. Frida Giannini sent out a collection that was straightforward with the pieces that can easily update one's wardrobe. The new crisp, cropped pants suit - in a wide range of colors. Exotic skin motor jackets, palm frond print tunics, safari jackets and sultry one-shoulder evening gowns adorned with agates. Add lots of gold chain necklaces, oversized slouchy totes, and platform shoes.

Roberto Cavalli

Roberto Cavalli was thinking many things for Spring 2009. From bandana prints, to biker chicks, to Victoriana, to botanical prints, to laser-cut technology. My picks for the season? Roberto's softer side - delicate patterned chiffon dresses, botanical prints, eyelet jackets in leather, and the happy striped gowns that float into a room.

Marni

It takes guts, and loads of confidence, to wear Marni head-to-toe. Most women don't. In this happy, vivid, vibrant collection by Consuelo Castiglioni, the secret is to pull apart the looks and find the pieces that, well, make you happy! Polka dots, sheer cover-ups, ruffle-front knits, exploded floral prints, a healthy dose of colorful sequins, and big, bold necklaces are the ideas that should be incorporated into your wardrobe. Have fun!

Aquilano E Rimondi

The team of Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi, have changed their label name from 6267. That's great because these are two names we need to remember! Earlier this week, they debuted their first collection for the house of Ferre. Their own collection was a fluid parade of beautifully wearable separates and dresses. Satin, and a rich color palette, make these must-have clothes of the chic variety. Oh, The fez are optional!

Prada

Miuccia Prada's girls were teetering, literally, between innocence and sexual energy. The almost conservative looking wrinkled jackets, dresses, and knits were left open, pulled down, or had exposed sides. With bras exposed, were these clothes being unbuttoned from oppressing humidity or the result of a hurried secret tryst? Novelty prints of fish or red snakeskin provided calm. And the stunning yellow-gold dresses were - stunning!

Etro

The ease of pajama dressing mixed with signature prints gave Veronica Etro's spring collection a slightly Eastern slant. Seersucker suits and pajama tops are perfect for the hottest days of summer. The gorgeous prints appeared in gold lamé and were jumbled all together. Not that adventurous? Pick the prints you like best and anchor with solids in your wardrobe.

Jil Sander

This is always a collection that explores an idea to the nth degree and for spring 2009, Raf Simons worked fringe every which way. Silk fringe draped around a bodysuit or long fringe falling off a white dress are two in-your-face options. More subtle, tailored jackets or dresses had the surprise of fringe backs. What a way to make an exit.

Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani has been in an experimental mood for the past few seasons, playing with exaggerated volumes and off-beat accessories. What a welcome Spring 2009 collection that featured the tailored jackets that are the backbone of any Armani aficionado. This time around, it's all about an elongated silhouette, slim or with a swingy draped feel. You'll love them striped with fluid shorts or beaded for evening.

Missoni

Wow. The strength of Angela Missoni's Spring 2009 collection takes place in the evening hours. Yes, there were plenty of the daytime patterned knits in easy, cover-up shapes. But my eye went right to the young, spirited evening knit ideas. Pleated, glazed with Lurex shine, or with all-over clear sequins - these summer lightweight gowns are stunners, on the dance floor or barefoot on the beach.
